FAQ

How many times can the IGU be assembled/disassembled?

The IGU can be assembled/disassembled at least 500 times.

Can the client change battery element themselves?

The client could not change the battery element themselves. The modular design of IGU allow the main body and battery to be paired randomly. The battery could be purchased separately if it is needed.

What's the influence of IGU burying and non-burying?

Based on experiments under burying and non-burying conditions, both results meet the coupling requirement. But buried IGUs give better coupling result.

Does IGU test geophone element resistance and dip in the field?

IGU can do a self-test based on script setting and get geophone element resistance result but can't get dip result. Since there is no communication between IGU and HHT, the HHT cannot send test command to IGU.

Addition to GPS, does it support other positioning systems?

Except GPS, the Gloness is also supported.

How long does it take to lock to GPS?

Usually it will take about one and half minutes to lock to GPS, but depending on the GPS signal level.

How many seconds does it take to assemble or disassemble one IGU?

It takes 6 seconds for assembling/disassembling one IGU.

What output data formats are provided?

SEGD 1.0, SEGD 2.1, SEGD 3.1, SEGY 1.0, SEGY 2.0, SEG 2, SAC.

What does it include in the daily test?

Sensor resistance, Damping, Sensitivity, Natural Frequency.

Does the IGU conduct a daily self-test?

A self-test will be conducted when IGU is turned on manually. If it is configured with a daily working mode, a self-test will be conducted daily upon wake up.

How long can the IGU record for, with an 8 GB memory card and 1 ms sample interval?

25 days continuously, or 50 days segmented (12 hours recording and 12 hours sleeping)

How is the waterproof performance of IGUs?

All the IGUs have been through air-tight test and waterproof test before shipping to clients. Waterproof grade IP67.

Are there any hidden danger of the SmartSolo battery during the using process and transportation?

All the SmartSolo IGUs have been through strict bumping test and high and low temperature test. There is temperature sensor inside IGU which is used to monitor the charging temperature to guarantee the safety.

How to QC the GPS signal?

GPS satellite, SNR, drift could be recorded each time when GPS is disciplined. The results could be checked after data is offloaded.

What happens if the IGU is buried too deeply?

The only risk will be weak GPS signal, causing the IGU keep searching satellites for too long. If no fix is obtained, this could make the data unusable. Burying at a maximum depth of 10cm is recommended.

Could SmartSolo correlate data using a pilot recorded on another recording system?

It is recommended that the correlation pilot be recorded by our own system, to avoid any errors due to filter differences compared with another system. However, it is OK if correlating data with a standard pilot (in a file) is preferred.

How to import TB GPS time into SmartSolo system?

For the Sercel 428 / 464 system, provided this is connected to an Accutime, the GPS time of each time break is available for inclusion in the exported OB log file. It is necessary to configure the OB file output options to include the TB GPS Time. The TB times will thus be provided to DMC on importing the OB file. To import the OB file DMC must have its template set to match the fields (columns) in the OB file. For UE 2, the exported SBS file can be read in directly without a template. (Note: the TB file on a GSR system is not compatible with SmartSolo)
